Catholic Charities strives to provide help, create hope, and promote justice. In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we will be welcoming volunteers to our Fr. English Food Pantry in Paterson on Monday and have recently formed a Justice Committee. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for Justice."

To assist with our eviction prevention endeavors, we recently received a $10,000 grant made possible through Catholic Charities USA and the Felician Sisters of North America Francis Fund.

As we persevere through 2021, we reflect on 2020. COVID-19 has reshaped our world. We have all experienced personal loss. The most vulnerable in our society have been most impacted by this crisis. Like always, Catholic Charities has persevered on.

This fall, Catholic Charities Board Member Father Ed Reading, received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine — as part of the third phase of a global clinical trial to make sure that the drug is safe and effective. (External Link, The Beacon)

Christmas during the Covid-19 pandemic has been anything but ordinary. Extraordinary times call for creative thinking and planning. That is the story of this year’s Delbarton Christmas Toy distribution for the children at Catholic Charities’ early childhood and youth programs.

Longtime DPD Volunteer, Dianne Macchia Hanson visited Barnet in Pompton Lakes, with group of students from DePaul Football, Immaculate Heart Academy, Don Bosco Prep, and the College of Holy Cross. They brought presents and joy to those who reside at the group home.

CCUSA has collaborated with BellAge, Inc. to encourage participation in a free, online, confidential, easy-to-use system that evaluates an individual’s COVID-19 risk levels and provides personalized recommendations to reduce those risks. Thousands of people give. Tens of thousands of people helped, just in time for this special holiday. We are thankful!

With the help of the Community Foodbank of New Jersey, Catholic Charities Fr. English Food Pantry gave out 3,500 turkeys, hundreds of bags of food, and helped thousands in just one day, right in time for Thanksgiving.

Through COVID-19 Catholic Charities, Department for Persons with Disabilities has provided help and created hope for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. On October 28th, DPD Gruenert Center, in Lake Hopatcong, proudly reopened its doors.

On October 24th we held our Annual Outdoor Memorial Mass remembering those who we have recently lost at the Department for Persons with Disabilities Wiegand Farm in Oak Ridge.

The Catholic Climate Covenant recently awarded 2 grants for Catholic Charities Food Pantries to purchase reusable shopping bags and carts. We thank them for all they do for humanity and the environment.

We have launched a new program to help our homeless find permanent housing. The Travel Benefit Initiative is a collaboration with multiple agencies to transport our homeless to their new homes.
